Be a Star
A couple months ago I competed in the regional STAR competition for FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) at SUU. I received a gold medal in my category (this is what I made my T-Shirt quilt, previously blogged about, for) and got to go on to the state competition! Last week I traveled to Layton with the winners from all of the other schools in Washington County on possibly the longest bus ride of my life. One other girl from my school, Mikelle, also came, but our adviser got sick so we were on our own with the other schools! This did however mean that we got our own hotel room, so we each got our own bed :) We woke up bright and early and headed to the convention center for orientation and our interviews. There were over 900 competitors from all over Utah; it was crazy. After we got interviewed about our projects we spent 4 hours aimlessly wandering the mall (we were exhausted). Then we went back to the convention center for a few more meetings. That night we were on our own for dinner so Mikelle and I walked to Zupas, the most delicious restaurant ever created, then headed to Menchies for dessert :) There was an activity that night, but that was the last thing we wanted to do, so we watched movies and ate our fro yo in our hotel room. The next morning we went to the awards ceremony. I ended placing with a silver medal in my category! Mikelle won gold in hers! Then we boarded the bus for another long drive, and headed back to St. George. We surprisingly have received a lot of recognition at school. Both of our school pictures are the first things to pop up on the school website which is pretty embarrassing yet awesome. We were put in the announcements a few times, and almost all of my teachers have recognized me in class. Today I was even given a gift card to Krave, and Sister Jordan, the sweet sister missionary at our seminary building, escorted me into class and had my whole class applaud me haha. So all in all, it was definitely worth it!
