Ellie Grace [1 Month]

How has it already been a month?! It seems like we were just taking little Ellie home from the hospital! At the same time, though, it feels like we've had her forever. Time is such a crazy thing. Anyway, what a month it has been! Honestly it's been a bit of a blur haha. A good blur but a blur nonetheless. I guess that's what happens when you're trying to figure out how to be parents and running on very little sleep ;) I wouldn't trade this crazy, tear filled, tiring, hardest yet best month of my life for anything though!

At one month, Ellie:

  • Weighs 8 lbs. 14 oz. She lost quite a bit after she was born but she is slowly and surely working her way back up. She is on a normal growth curve so all is well!
  • Is 21.5 inches long! (1.5 inches longer than when she was born)
  • Still has a head full of hair! Its starting to lighten up, but it's still pretty dark and thick. We love it. Especially her rat tail ;)
  • Makes the best baby noises. My favorite is when she's trying to do something (like eat or move herself when we lay her on the bed) and she grunts. It's the cutest grunt you'll ever hear and it kills me every time.
  • Is a great eater! Ellie was a champ at breastfeeding from day one. She loves her food and would literally eat all day if I would let her.
  • Is getting into somewhat of a routine (yay!!). She eats for most of the morning (seriously will eat for an hour and then go an hour tops, usually shorter, between feedings), takes a nice long nap during the late afternoon/early evening, and will usually sleep for 3-4 hours between nighttime feedings now (hallelujah!!)
  • Is starting to smile! Oh my heart!! Nothing melts me like her little baby smile. So precious.
  • Is strong!! She can hold her head up completely on her own for 10-15 seconds, scoot herself up mommy and daddy's tummy's, roll from her back to her side, and has a serious death grip (I'm definitely contemplating cutting my hair). We are constantly amazed by what she can do!
  • Loves the bath! She is so content in the tub--it's pretty adorable.
  • For the most part she loves the car. She didn't make a peep our whole drive to SLC and she'll usually fall asleep or just be content whenever we're driving around town!
  • Is starting to spend more time awake during the day and when she's awake she's very alert. One of my favorite times of the day is when she's wide awake after a feeding and she'll lay on our bed and 'talk' with me and Ben.
  • Is developing her lungs, haha. When she was born she had this soft little raspy voice and cry and I loved it. Now her cry is pretty strong and loud but her voice is still pretty cute :)
  • Is told by most people that she looks like her daddy but I found my first baby picture the other day and she's totally my daughter!
  • Has gone on her first road trip! She was soooo good on our trip up north and everyone (Ben's family and the OCM) loved meeting her!
  • Doesn't like to sleep flat on her back and sleeps best with a nice tight swaddle and some gripe water (poor girl has some tummy troubles).
  • Makes the best faces and looks concerned about 90% of the time--even when she's sleeping.
  • Eats with her pinky up (not even kidding). So proper.
  • Loves to stare at our headboard when I'm feeding her in our bed or she's laying on our bed. She's seriously mesmerized by it every time.
  • Has the goopiest eyes :( Her eyes get sealed shut with goobers multiple times a day :( Her eyes are also super dark blue and so pretty!
  • Has a self-appointed guard dog. Coco will literally sleep under Ellie's bed and sit on my lap when I'm feeding her.
  • Has her mommy and daddy completely wrapped around her tiny adorable fingers!!! We are SO in love with our Ellie girl it's hard to even put our feelings into words. She is the sweetest baby and has brought us so much joy and happiness! We could stare at her perfect little self all day and sometimes we actually do. :)

XOXO,
Ellie's Mom
