a happy [and sappy] anniversary post

Can you believe it's been a year? Me either. It seems like we were just having our nightly phone calls or making wedding plans while eating dinner at the park because we couldn't be in our apartment together while we were engaged :) At the same time, it feels like we've always been together. I already have a hard time imagining that there was ever a time in my life that I didn't know you.

This year has had it's ups and downs but I wouldn't trade it for anything. And it's mostly been a lot of crazy, happy ups :) I've been thinking a lot about all that we've accomplished and experienced but I've also been thinking about where it all began and how we got here.

I got home from my mission and waited 3 whole days to send you a message on Facebook. That took a lot of discipline, haha. I was so nervous when I finally sent you a message, but you messaged right back AND asked for my number! I was on cloud 9. There was just one problem.. I didn't have a phone yet! (Returned missionary problems). Luckily, I got one the next day and texted you right away: "Benjamin Martin! It's Kayla Rolfe :)"

That just happened to be the day I moved to Provo. You asked me to hang out that night but I was busy moving in and spending time with my family! I asked you to meet me at Temple Square the next night and hoped that I hadn't missed my chance (haha). I put my arm in yours and we both wished that we would get married when we threw pennies in the fountain (even though we didn't know that until we were engaged).

We were pretty inseparable after that first night. It was like we were always meant to be together and it was the most natural thing in the world. No dating other people, no taking breaks from each other, no awkward dates or even moments, we were just two halves that had finally become a whole.

The next couple months flew by (and SO MUCH happened) but before we knew it, it was May 23, 2015 and we were once again meeting at the temple. This time we went inside and made sacred covenants. It was the perfect day. I kept waiting for something to go wrong but it never did. We were just happy to have the deal sealed :)

The next year was full of adventures that I never want to forget. I've loved every minute because they've all been by your side. I remember thinking that I could never love you more when I knelt across the altar from you and then time and time again throughout the past year I've been proven wrong. My love for you grows EVERY DAY. How is that even possible??

This year, our first year of marriage, has been so special. We've......

  • Gone to 2 amusement parks
  • Taken many roadtrips! Which means Kickstarts, long talks, the story game, chicken sandwiches, and lots of memories.
  • Celebrated our first married birthdays! (Lagoon for you and framed ultrasound pictures for me :)
  • Survived 4 semesters of school!!
  • Moved to Utah! Woot woot!
  • Watched hours and hours of Good Mythical Morning
  • Seen Old Faithful twice
  • Taken countless walks around Porter Park
  • Gone to multiple drive in movies! (and learned the hard way not to buy food there ;)
  • Eaten copious amounts of ice cream
  • Survived my first trimester of pregnancy (and 2nd and 3rd.. the 1st was just the one that took the most surviving ;)
  • Eaten our body weight in BK Chicken Sandwiches
  • Honeymooned in our wonderful mission :)
  • (You've) held me while I cried (and learned that I cry A LOT. It didn't really help that I've been pregnant for 256 of the past 365 days)
  • Made multiple ridiculous videos that only the two of us find funny
  • Spent many wonderful hours in the temple
  • Gone on many walks, bike rides, and even a few runs :) (together)
  • Started a business!! What?!
  • Became proud dog (step?) parents
  • Made up a lot of words (thank you for being weird with me!)
  • Played a lot of Uno on our bed (when I was on my death bed but soo sick of watching TV or just laying there haha)
  • Discovered Swig and Pizza Factory Breadsticks
  • Played a lot of tennis!
  • You decided you wanted to teach seminary ( and I was a million percent on board and won't let you change your mind) and became a substitute seminary teacher
  • You also became a track coach at my high school!!! #gowarriors
  • I became a certified School of Life Trainer and completed my first session of training at Red Mountain Elementary!
  • Never raised our voices at each other. Yes, we've disagreed, but we've never fought or been rude to one another. And I'm SO grateful for that.
  • Said 365 'I love you Because's'
  • And most importantly.......... We created our little girl! We're growing our little family and that is what makes me the happiest! I hope she's just like you. And I can't wait for all of the memories we will have as a family of 3 at our next anniversary :)

This list could go on forever. What a year it has been. Thank you for giving me a reason to smile every day. Thank you for always saying I Love You. Thank you for helping me to draw closer to Jesus Christ. Thank you for being my best friend.

I love you forever. This year has gone too fast and I have no doubts that eternity is the only thing that will be long enough.

All my love,
Kay
