What a week! This is the week that I (like many other mamas, I'm sure) have looked forward to since I found out I was expecting, and it did not disappoint.
Thursday: Ultrasound day!! Thank goodness I had homework to occupy my time all morning because I was a bundle of nerves. Even though I knew we wouldn't actually know the gender until Friday I was dying to see my baby! The ultrasound tech asked if we knew the gender as soon as we got started and I told her that we didn't but that we would like her to keep it a secret so that we could have our little reveal party. She agreed and didn't mention it the rest of the ultrasound. Toward the end my mom asked if she knew the gender and she said, "Oh, yeah!" Ah!! She was good at her job because we didn't even see that part of the babe during the ultrasound! Anyway, the ultrasound was everything I could have asked for and more. The first thing we saw was baby's tiny feet. SO cute and SO little. My heart about burst. We heard babe's heartbeat and I definitely got teary eyed. We saw the heart beating away, the brain, the spinal cord, and glimpses of baby's profile. Every time we would try to get a peak at that precious little face baby would turn toward my back and put her hand over her little face. It was actually pretty adorable. She is definitely an active little thing, squirming all over the place during the ultrasound. It looked like she was trying to get comfy :) She also has a personality. When we finally got a glimpse of her little profile the first thing she did was stick her little tongue out at us! Haha. It was so fun to see her, especially in 3D, and I could have watched her all day! At the end of my appointment the ultrasound tech came in and handed us an envelope with baby's gender. You have no idea how much will power it took not to tear that thing open! We promptly took it to party land and put it in the hand's of their workers so that they could fill up a giant balloon for our reveal. I'm still a little envious they got to know my baby's gender before me ;)
Friday: ANOTHER of the longest days of my life! But I totally brought it upon myself so I can't complain too much haha. My mom and I busied ourselves with party decorations and cooking blue and pink food for dinner! When we picked up the GIANT black balloon filled with blue or pink confetti I had another test of my will power. We got the balloon and all of our decorations in position and then we played the waiting game. My sister and her family were driving up from Vegas to join us and we got everything done about an hour before they got here. That hour was honestly the longest of my life! I don't think I've ever had so many butterflies in my tummy! I distracted myself by checking Facebook constantly to track our friends and family's guesses of our baby's gender. It ended being about 60% girl 40% boy. However, almost everyone who was here for the party guessed boy. I was totally torn and wouldn't let myself vote.
Once they arrived the nerves really amped up! We quickly got the rest of our family on Skype and Facetime (thank goodness for modern technology) and then it was time to pop that darn balloon! I was so nervous at this point I didn't even know if I wanted to! Suddenly my mom was counting down from three, Ben's needle stuck the balloon, and before my mind could even register what had happened I was staring at a pile of PINK confetti on the ground! That's right, it was PINK! As soon as I realized what that meant I literally started jumping up and down before running to Ben and jumping into his arms!
WE'RE HAVING A GIRL!!!!
We couldn't be happier (especially since I don't have to return all of the baby dresses and tu tus I've already bought hahaha) and are SO excited to meet little MISS Martin in June!! We both felt she was a girl but all of the wives tales pointed to me having a boy. This just proves to us that God is in charge and this little one is the very one who needs to come to our family :) She is already the love of our lives and we feel so privileged to have her sweet little Spirit in our home.
"Little girls are Heaven's flowers"
xoxo,
Mama Martin
